Home Energy Assessments

The project starts with an interview to find out what symptoms you’ve noticed and what, if anything, you’ve done to fix those symptoms. An evaluation of your energy bills provides clues to areas that need improvement.

Next, one of our BPI Certified Professionals conducts a thorough walk-through indoors and out. We use an infrared camera to get a visual on temperature differences inside the house, conduct a blower door test to depressurize the house and assess air leakage in the building envelope, and test for leakage in the duct work of forced air HVAC systems. We also perform other functions and safety tests on HVAC equipment and check carbon monoxide levels and flue draft on combustion appliances.

At the end of the comprehensive whole-home assessment, we provide you with a detailed, objective house report. We help you prioritize repairs, from must-do to nice-to-do, so you can solve the biggest problems without making smaller problems worse and without breaking your budget.

Diagnostics and Solutions

We identify air leaks, leaking ducts, missing insulation, furnace and air conditioning problems, and any unsafe gas or carbon monoxide leaks in your home. Once the improvement work is completed, we conduct a second whole-home assessment that follows all the same steps as the first to make sure the desired performance levels have been achieved.

We participate in BPI’s quality assurance program, so you know you’ll get high-quality work. We take it very seriously.

Blower Door Test

A blower door is a variable speed fan, mounted in a doorframe, used to pressurize and depressurize a house to measure air leakage. Air sealing cracks and openings in your home can significantly reduce heating and cooling costs, improve building durability, and create a healthier indoor environment.

Duct Blaster Test

A duct blaster is a variable speed fan that is attached to a duct system to measure duct air leakage.Duct sealing helps air conditioning systems work more efficiently by avoiding the intake of hot, humid air from leaky return ducts.

Infrared Camera Test

An infrared camera takes an image showing surface heat variations that can be used to help detect heat loss, missing insulation, and air leakage in buildings. Insulation, in addition to air sealing, is one of the most affordable ways to reduce your home’s cooling and heating costs.
